Mississippi Made

North Mississippi's first distillery, Wonderbird Spirits, is an eight minute drive south of Oxford on Old Taylor Road. Opened in Spring 2019, Wonderbird is the brainchild of friends and co-owners Chand Harlow, Rob Forster, and Thomas Alexander.

Grain to Glass

We ferment Mississippi Delta rice to make the base spirit. Our approach, which borrows from traditional sake making, sets a beautifully clean foundation for layering subtly complex flavors and aromas.

Our Story

Wonderbird Spirits is the result of separate but similar stories that converged around one singular goal: to make a world class gin. After two years of developing the distillery and the product, Wonderbird took flight in the Spring of 2019. We hope you enjoy the gin and one day come see us. Cheers

Come prepared for Thanksgiving with the few ingredients required to make your crowd a Red Bird Martini. The preparation is simple, as you can see, yet the end result tastes nothing short of refined. REDBIRD MARTINI • 2 oz Wonderbird Gin • 1/4 oz red vermouth (use a good one...it matters! We like Carpano Antica.) Stir ingredients above in an ice-filled beaker (gently stir to avoid too much melting). Strain chilled liquid into martini coupe glass. Express and garnish with a thin peel of orange.

The barrel in which we rested this gin was hand selected from the famed Maker's Mark distillery by local friends and Southern culture experts John T. Edge and Wright Thompson on their highly acclaimed, James Beard Award-nominated series TrueSouth which airs on the SEC Network (Season 2, Episode 2: Hodgenville, KY). We were thrilled to have been granted the opportunity to give this extraordinary vessel a second life, allowing us to offer you this uniquely beautiful gin expression that is perfect for the holiday season. Rested for 112 days, this special, limited-release product yielded just 262 bottles. The collector's item, which shares the same botanical bill as our No. 61 gin, is a wonderfully smooth gin with all the complexity of its predecessor plus vanilla and spice notes brought on by the barrel. In our recipe, the root of Angelica offers a delicate sweetness with earthy and slightly woody notes. Its scent fills the air when loading the gin basket, making it a particularly enjoyable botanical to work with during distillation.
